Sowers - Sarah Squire

SARAH J. SQUIRE, daughter of Albert and Mary Squire, was born in Putnam county, Ind., Dec. 23, 1857. Died at her home in Crawfordsville, Ind., Sept. 16, 1914 at the age of 56 years. When a mere girl she united with the Christian church and at the age of 16 joined the New Light church. Later was united with the Friends church at Kingman, Ind. March 15, 1877 she was married to James COTTON, who died in 1879. June 3, 1883 she was married to James W. SOWERS. To this union was born three sons, Gilford Manson, Earl and Everett, Gilford Manson dying Sept. 22, 1876 at 2 years of age. Earl and Everett, who with their stricken father and husband are left to mourn their loss and do honor to the memory of a loving mother and devoted wife. Some five years ago she was afflicted with a cancer, but her indominatable spirit of energy and determination kept her faithful to the duties of home and companionship of her loved ones until the last. During her last sickness the faithful heart quieted the efforts of her patient soul and mother and wife went home to rest with God and await the coming of her loved ones, where sorrow comes not and death is unknown. Mrs. Sowers endeared herself to all those with whom she was intimately associated and will be greatly missed by neighbors and friends as well as the heart stricken family. The funeral services were conducted on Friday by Revs. J. M. McHargue and Albert Rardin of Kingman, at the Friends church after which the remains were laid to rest in the Harveysburg cemetery. -s
