Jimmie D. Sowder, 21, Cottonwood Trailer Court, died Monday afternoon in Indiana University Medical Center at Indianapolis of injuries he suffered here Oct. 26 when his motorcycle collided with a pickup truck. City police who investigated the accident said Sowder was eastbound on Wabash Avenue shortly before noon that day and struck the truck at Barr Street. Sowder, employed at Mid-States Steel & Wire Co., became the 12th traffic fatality recorded in Montgomery County this year. Sowder’s motorcycle struck the left front fender of a truck operated by James L. Murphy, 38, Rt. 4, according to investigating officers. Murphy told officers he was northbound on Barr and had stopped for the flashing red traffic signal before attempting to cross Wabash. He said he failed to see anything coming and had pulled ahead when the motorcycle struck his vehicle. After hitting the truck, the cycle skidded off the street and struck a utility pole.  Sowder was knocked into the street. Officers said the cyclist was unconscious when they arrived. The youth was taken to Culver Hospital and transferred to the Indianapolis hospital. He was born July 23, 1951, at Ladoga, a son of Foister and Margrette Renner Sowder, who survive. They reside on Rt. 2, Ladoga. He was a 1970 graduate of New Market High School. Also surviving are six brothers, Phil of Roachdale, Stephen of Crawfordsville, and Keith, Joe, Kenny and Tim, all at home; two sisters, Mrs. Velma McKinsey of Indianapolis and Mrs. Eunice Oliver of Terre Haute, and several nieces. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Reeves Funeral Home at New Market, with Rev. Paul Ingram officiating. Burial will be in Indian Creek Hill Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Wednesday. – jlr
