Southard - Lot - 1887

Elder Lot Southard died at Connersville at midnight Thursday night very suddenly. He was born in Ohio October 15, 1811 and has resided in Montgomery County over 50 years being 77 years old at the time of his death. Last Tuesday he received a fall and he died as a result of injuries received. He was a man of the old school Baptist Church.

The Journal Dispatch has to announce today the sudden death of one of Montgomery County's oldest citizens, Elder Lot Southard. Mr. Southard was a native of Ohio and has been a resident of Montgomery County 40 years or more. His age at the time of his death was 77 years. The deceased was a minister of the Old School Baptist faith and the stern teachings of tha torganization as embodied in its creek was likved out in his life. He was highly respected by all and before he became too old was a power in the pulpit of his faith and choice. Of late years he while in seeming good health has grown feeble, his vatlity giving way. He has been very weak for some time and a fall upon the sidewalk some days since injured his hip. Since this accident he has been confined to the house and was unable to have his clothing removed yet no thought of his death was entertained by his friends. It came upon him suddenly and without warning, and at midnight last night he passed peacefully away. The news will be a shock to his host of friends thoughout this and other counties of the state. The deceased was born Oct 15 in Butler County, Ohio and entered the ministry when 37 years of age and has follolwed the calling of a minister of the gospel for 40 years. He was married May 22, 1834 to Miss Fullerton, who with three sons, Thomas, Amos and Jacob survive him. One son and two daughters passed away in their youth. Funeral services will take place tomorrow at 2 p.m. from his late residence on binford Street. Interment at Oak Hill - Crawfordsville Journal Dispatch.
