It will be seen from the letter of Lt. WH Laymon published elsewhere that our highly esteemed and patriotic fellow citizen Capt. William Southard of Co K, 86th Indiana regiment was killed in the recent battles before Chattanooga. Capt. Southard, we believe is the first citizen of Crawfordsville though we have had many in almost every engagement who has fallen in battle since the commencement of this ungodly rebellion - fallen to rise no more. - typed by kbz
