NORTH SALEM - Claude O. Soots, 79, of North Salem, retired painter and decorator, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday in Hendricks County Hospital at Danville. He had been in failing health several years. A native of the county, he was a son of John and Mary Newman Soots and was born July 11, 1889. He was married June 17, 1914 in Crawfordsville to Merle Hicks, who survives. Also surviving are nieces and nephews. Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Porter Funeral Home. Rev. R. R. O'Haver will be the minister, and burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. today. - jlr
