VEEDERSBURG— Hardy Ray Songer, 71, a high school coach and principal for 43 years, died at 8 p.m. Sunday in St. Elizabeth's Hospital at Lafayette, where he had been a surgery patient for five weeks. A graduate of Veedersburg High School, Mr. Songer obtained his A.B. from Central Normal College and his master's from Purdue University. He had coached and had been a principal at Medaryville, Francisville and Wallace in recent years. He was a member of the New Century EUB Church and the Masonic Lodge at Odell, Ind. He was born Oct. 27, 1895, in Veedersburg, a son of Manford and Lucinda Angelin Songer. He was married to Vera M. Wisehart of Crawfordsville Nov. 24, 1917. Surviving are the widow; a son, Hardy of Wabash; a brother, Robert of Waynetown, and three grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Walter. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Parham Funeral Home with Rev. Mrs. Edith Bruner officiating. Burial will be in Bonebrake Cemetery.
