Crawfordsville – Howard A. Sommer, 83,
Crawfordsville, a former Montgoery Circuit Court judge died Saturday in a
Lebanon nursing home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday in First Christian
Church here of which he was a member. Calling will be after 4 p.m. Tuesday in
Powers Funeral Home here. Mr. Sommer came to Crawfordsville as counsel for
Evans DeVore in 1922 and was appointed Montgomery Circuit Court judge in 1944.
He retired in 1974. He was a native of Jay County. Mr. Sommer was a member of
York Rite Masonic Lodge 50, American Red Cross Board, Literary Club in
Crawfordsville and Montgomery County and state bar associations. He was past president of Crawfordsville
Kiwanis Club and chairman of United Fund in Crawfordsville. He graduated from
Lane Business College & Benjamin Harrison Law School. Memorial
contributions may be made to First Christian Church Memorial Fund. Survivors:
