Vance Snyder, trustee of Van Buren Twp, and a civic leader in many endeavors died about 6 a.m. Tuesday at Culver Hospital of a heart condition. Mr. Snyder had been ill several weeks and was admitted to the hospital on Monday following an attack. He was associated with many civic groups and was one of Veedersburg's most highly regarded men. As trustee of Van Buren Twp, Mr. Snyder was instrumental in bringing about school consolidation last year. He was active in the Veedersburg Christian Church and had served as a member of the official board and trustee for many years. He was also a member of the Veedersburg Lions Club, Masonic Lodge, OES, American Legion, K of P and Fountain County Welfare Board. At the time of his recent ill health he was employed at the Fountain Foundry and was a director of the Veedersburg State Bank. Before joining the Foundry office staff, he managed a garage and bus station for the late C.V. Nixon. He was also fond of music, playing many years in the Veedersburg town band, playing violin in the Church orchestra and singing in the church choir. Mr. Snyder was born March 1, 1895 near Mellott, the son of Czar and Alice Stembaugh Snyder. He was married March 23, 1918 just before entering WWI, to Miss Dorothy Youngblood. Surviving is the wife, a daughter, Mrs. Martin Smith of Kokomo, Ind, two grandsons, Danny and Mike, also of Kokomo and a sister, Mrs. Goldie Warren of Winter Haven, Florida. Funeral services were conducted on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 at Veedersburg Christian Church with Richard Owen, the pastor officiating. Burial was in Rockfield Cemetery with Fishero Funeral Home in charge.

born near Mellott March 1, 1895 -- when 3 parents moved to Veedersburg - youth spent in community where he attended pbulic schools graduating from Veedersburg HS in 1915. Attended Wabash. On March 23, 1918 united in marriage to Dorothy Youngblood, the daughter of Charles & Nellie Isley Youngblood. In April 1918 entered armed services serving overseas with medical department of US Army - returned started life in Veedersburg as merchant in grocery business. 1928 interested in automobile sales and garage management - Osborn Motor Co. Later Nixon Motor Co. at time of death serving 2nd term as trustee of Van Buren Twp and bookeeper for Fountain Foundry. ... 1925 home of Vance & Dorothy was blessed with birth of daughter, Marian Lee Snyder Smith who at this time resides in Kokomo and is mother of two grandchildren , MIchael Alan and Dan Robert - brought much joy to Vance in his later years. Preceded in death by his parents and leaves to survive him, wife, Dorothy, Marian Lee, their daughter, two grandchildren and one sister, Goldie Warren of Winter Haven, Florida with other relatives and friends
