Mary Caroline McConnell Snyder, wife of G. W. Snyder, died suddenly on Friday morning at her residence on East College Street. She had been an invalid for several years but had been somewhat better for a few days previous, when death came swiftly at the last and released her of her sufferings.
She was born in Hamilton County, Ohio, on the 13th of November, 1812, and came with her father’s family to the neighborhood of Crawfordsville in 1826. She was married to Mr. Snyder on the 31st day of August, 1837, and was the mother of eight children, five of whom survive her: Mrs. Gertrude Beatty, Mrs. Margaret Ryker, Mrs. Laura Clark, Miss Mary E. and John J. Snyder.
She united with the Presbyterian Church about sixty years ago and lived a Christian life for that number of years. As a wife she was loving and kind, as a mother affectionate and exemplary, as a Christian devout and sincere. She endeared herself to her neighbors and friends by her amiable manners and unselfish benevolence.
After a life of 82 years and five months spent in usefulness and good deeds she passed gently away in the fervent hope of a blessed immortality, where the weary are at rest and the heavy laden are comforted.
She leaves hosts of friends to mourn her departure, but they are comforted with the thought that what is their irreparable loss is her infinite gain.
Funeral services were held at the house, 307 East College Street, Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock by Rev. E. B. Thomson. Interment was at the Masonic Cemetery.
