Dorothy, eldest daughter of Frank Spencer and Ellen Johnson Spencer, was
born near Judson, Indiana on Sept. 7, 1899; passed on into the beautiful Elysian
Fields of which we mortals dream on Aug. 8, 1930. From earliest childhood her
sunshiny disposition, her desire to be a service to others about her, as well
as her remarkable musical abilities and her willingness to share her talent for
the pleasure of others made her a favorite of all who knew her. To know Dorothy
was to love her. The many expressions of love and sympathy as well as the host
of beautiful floral offerings were but a few of the symbols of her many
friendships. After graduation from the Greene Township public schools Dorothy
attended the Rockville High School and later attended the Waveland High School
from which she was graduated in 1917. She attended the Indiana State Teachers
College at Terre Haute from which she received a Bachelors Degree in Public
School Music. She then went to East Chicago, Indiana as supervisor of music in
the elementary grades and later took up the music work in the high school.
During her period of teaching in East Chicago she also won a Masters Degree
from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. On May 30, 1924 she was
married to Llewellyn Williams Jr., of East Chicago, Indiana. Besides the
husband there remains to sorrow for her separation from us the father, mother,
one sister, Elizabeth and two brothers, Raymond and Robert, as well as a host
of other relatives and friends. Mrs. Williams was a member of the Christian
(Disciples) Church having joined that body in 1913 while attending the
Rockville High School and under the pastorate of Rev. Wm. T. Barbee. The
funeral services were held at the home of her father, Frank Spencer, on Sunday
morning, Aug. 10, the Rev. E.E. Moorman of Indianapolis, officiating. Two songs
"Lead Kindly Light' and "Abide With Me' were sung by Paul McMains of
New York City. Interment was in the Mount Moriah Cemetery. The pall-bearers
were Messrs. Hoyt and Dwight Spencer, Winfred McCutchan, Wane Miller, K. Link
and Allen R. Lewis. Those who carried the flowers were Misses Helen McClain,
Helen Jack, Lois Irelan, Carmen Ewbank, Mary McCutchan, Marjorie McCutchan,
Gladys Spencer, Margaret Spencer, Mesdames Roy Buser, Dwight Spencer, Hoyt
Spencer, Winfred McCutchan and Mrs. Miriam Hoover. Those attending the funeral
