James M. Sowers, age 75, prominent and highly respected resident of the Kingman community for many years, died at his country home just now of here (Kingman) at 9:30 o'clock Thurs morning, following a parlytic stroke which he suffered ten days ago. Born in Ill near State Line, Mr. Sowers removed to the Kingman community in his early boyhood. A farmer in early life, Mr. S. was a mail carrier out of K. for many years and then for 18 years before his retirement from active business 10 or 12 years ago, he was cashier of the Citz. St Bank in K. Mr. S. was active in the work of the United Brethren Church in K. for many years. He also held membership in the Modern Woodmen. Mr. S. is survived by his widow, Julietta Ratcliff Sowers, to whom he was marr. Feb 5, 1893. Their golden wedd anniv. was celebrated last year. 3 ch: a daughter, Va Sowers, of 2340 W 113th Place, Chicago; two sons, Cliston Sowers of Huntington Park Ca and Gordon A Sowers who is the ag. agent for Mont Co in Crawfordsville. Other surv. include the stepmother, Mrs. Minnie Hamm of Pittsboro three bros Jackie S. of Yeddo Will S. of Kingman and Scott Ratcliff of Kingman, sisters, Mrs. Delia Wood of Newtown; Mrs. Chester Allen of Pittsboro and Mrs. Jessie Culver of Morgantown. There are also five grandchildren. 2 of them are in the service, Seaman Cliston Phillips Sowers in the US Navy and Major Gordon T SOwers with the USAF now stationed in this country after many months of active duty in the So. Pacific. Fun. serv will be held at 2 o'clock Sun afternoon at the Kingman United Breth Church with the Rev Winfield Sheriill former pastor offic.
