Mrs. Gertie Mae Sowers, 85, of Wallace died at 2:30 p.m. Monday January 21, 1963 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Eleanor Yerkes, in Wallace. She had been ill for one year. Born January 24, 1877 near Wallace, she was the daughter of Dexter and Emmaline Reichard Keeling. She was married September 26, 1879 to Houston Sowers, who preceded her in death in 1950. She was a member of Freedom Church. Surviving include a son, Oral of Wallace; 3 daughters, Mrs. Yerkes, Miss Ada Stephens of Mellott and Mrs. Velma Delks of Montezuma; two brothers, Ora Keeling of Wallace and Clifford of Waynetown; two sisters, Mrs. Alta Fitz of High Point NC and Mrs. Odessa Campbell of Orange Park Florida. Services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Freedom Church. The Rev. Alfred Dobbs officiated and burial was in Centennial Cemetery.
