Claude E. Sowers, 88, a retired farmer who had lived in the Bloomingdale area most of his life, died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday. in Ben Hur Nursing Home at Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there about 5 months. He was born Aug 30, 1885, a son of John A. and Mary Margaret Williamson Sowers. He was first married to Martha Horning on June 19, 1903. She died Nov 24, 1908. He was married to Effie B. Carnagey on June 19, 1918. She died March 15, 1961. Surviving are 4 daughters, Mrs. Milton (Emma) Campbell of Linden; Mrs. Ernest (Mary E) Modesitt of Lafayette; Mrs. Don (Ada Lois) Huber of San Antonio, Texas and Mrs. Kenneth (Claudine) Yerkes of Rt 2, Kingman; two sons, John of Rt. 1, Bloomingdale; and Thomas E. of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Tudor-Herrick Memorial Chapel at Rockville with the Rev. Harry R. McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Bethany cemetery at Marshall. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Bloomingdale, Ind (CNS) - Claude E. Sowers, 88, of Bloomingdale, died Sunday March 10, 1974 at the Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville. He had been a patient there since Oct 12, 1973. Born August 30, 1885, in Parke County, he was the son of John A. and Mary Margaret Williamson Sowers. On June 19, 1903, he married Martha Horning who died Nov 23, 1908. He then married Effie B. Carnegey June 19, 1918. She died March 15, 1961. He was a retired farmer. Survivors include four daugthers, Mrs. Milton (Emma) Campbell of Linden; Mrs. Ernest (Mary E) Modesitt of Lafayette; Mrs. Don (Ada Lois) Huber of San Antonio, TX and Mrs. Kenneth (Claudine) Yerkes of Kingman; two sons, John of Bloomingdale Rt 1 and Thomas E. of Crawfordsville; 11 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Tudor-Herrick Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Harry R. McFadden officiating. Burial will be in Bethany Cemetery at Marshall. Visitation will be at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today.
