Virgil R. Smith, 63 lifelong farmer died at his home a half-mile west of Mace at 5 a.m. Thursday, Death was due to a heart attack. Mr. Smith had been in failing health for two months. Born June 30, 1896, in Boone County he was the son of James H. and Katie Kampshrader Smith. He was married Feb 25, 1921 in Lebanon to Verna Proffitt. Mr. Smith was a member of the Advance Congregational Christian Church. Since 1951, Mr. Smith had lived on his farm near Mace. He previously had farmed in the Lebanon and Thorntown areas. The survivors include the wife, a son, Lloyd Smith of Darlington; a daughter, Mrs. Sumner Caldwell, Rt 2, Thorntown; and stepmother, Mrs. Lula Smith of Advance, as well as 5 grandchildren. A daughter and two brothers preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 2:30 0pm. Saturday at the Congregational Church in Advance with Rev. OV Rector in charge Burial will be in the Old Union Cemetery. Friends may call at the family residence from noon Friday until 11:30 .m. Saturday when the body will be removed to the church to lie in state until time for the funeral . - kbz
