Smith - Ruth Stokes

Mrs. Ruth Smith died at her home in Stone Bluff at 1 a.m. Tuesday (19 October 1948) after being seriously ill for many months. Mrs. Smith was well known in this vicinity and death came to her at the age of 50.
She was born September 4, 1898, near Dana, the daughter of Robert and Sylvia Bullington Stokes. She was married October 13, 1917 to James W. Smith and had resided in this section since.
She is survived by the husband, a daughter, Mrs. Norma Jean Layman of Veedersburg; a son, Keith of Veedersburg; six sisters, Mrs. Grant Kesner, Parkersburg, Ind; Mrs. Martin Allen, Cayuga; Mrs. John Williams, Roachdale; Mrs. Orville Adams. Mrs. Frederick Dusenberg, Mooresville and Mrs. Paul Newland of Clinton; two brothers, Robert Stokes, Clinton and Donald Stokes of Newport.
Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the United Brethren Church in Stone Bluff with the Rev. Darl Switzer officiating. Burial was in the Thomas Cemetery at Newport with the Parham Funeral Home in charge. --- kbz
