Paul E. Smith, 46, of Bridgeton, father of Mrs. James (Virginia Diane) Pruett of 705 Grace Ave., Crawfordsville, died at 1:25 p.m. Thursday in Clay County Hospital at Brazil. He was an employee of Bridgeport Brass at Indianapolis and was a member of both Bridgeton and Bridgeport Brass volunteer fire departments. He served in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was born at Brazil on Oct. 7, 1927, a son of Lewis and Adele Clasquin Smith. Surviving are the widow, Mary; a son, Lewis at home; three daughters at home, Sandra Adele, Phyllis Marlene and Paula Christine; a sister, Mrs. Delores Escott; his mother, Mrs. Adelle Sawyer of Brazil, and three granddaughters. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Miller & Sons Funeral Home at Brazil with burial in Clear Run Cemetery at Bridgeton. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.m. Saturday. – jlr
