Mrs. Martha McMullen Smith died Friday morning about 8:30 o'clock at her home one mile south of Crawfordsville on the Greencastle Road, after a weeks illness with pneumonia. The deceased was the wife of John W. Smith, prominent farmer who committed suicide several weeks ago. It is understood that Mrs. Smith had been in failing health for some time. Martha McMullen was born July 6, 1849, near New Market, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Susan (Elrod) McMullen and was the third child of a family of ten children. She was married to John W. Smith on September 26, 1872. She was a member of the Christian church and resided south of Crawfordsville all her life. Surviving are three sons, Joseph D., Harry L., and Fred M. Smith all of near Crawfordsville; three grandchildren, Merle B., Morris, and Geraldine; one sister, Mrs. Lydia Haun, of Lebanon; one brother, Lindsey McMullen, of Pritchard, Colo. Funeral services will be held from the residence Sunday at two o'clock with the Rev. J. ! H. Wilson in charge. Interment will be in the Masonic cemetery.
