Mrs. Madge Clark Smith, 83, of 802 E Market St, died Thursday night at Culver Hospital. She had been a patient 3 and a half weeks. Mrs. Smith was the great granddaughter of one of the first 10 families to receive a land grant in Montgomery County in the 19th century. She was born Oct 3, 1887 in Montgomery County to Ephraim Franklin Catterlin and Eliza Clark Catterlin. She married Morris Cory Smith Nov 13, 1912. Mrs. Smith lived in Crawfordsville for 68 years. She was a graduate of Crawfordsville HS. During the early years of her marriage she was employed at the former Bischof Dept. Store. She was a lifelong member of Christ United Methodist Church and member of the Fiathful Circle Class of that church. Surviving are her husband and a son, Robert Morris Smith of Portland, Ore. She was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Lowel Catterlin. Service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday in Bright & Burkhart Funeral Home by Rev. Leland Brett & Rev. Robert Rumsey. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Saturday. - kbz
