Mrs. Lucie A. Smith of New Market died at the home of her son, Elijah J. Smith, 602 E. Chestnut Street on Tuesday of heart trouble. Mrs. Smith came to the home of her son here last Wednesday and was taken suddenly ill. Deceased was born December 6, 1853 in Boterot County, VA the daughter of Elijah and Elizabeth Dillman Harris. She was united in marriage to C.B. Smith on October 19, 1875. Mr. Smith preceded her in death 28 April 1899. She came to Indiana from Virginia in 1880, locating at Ladoga. She moved to the vicinity of New Market 28 years ago and had resided there since. She was a membr of the New Market Baptist Church. She is survived by six hildren: Mary J. Pennington of Crawfordsville; James A. Smith of Terre Haute; Elijah J. Smith of Crawfordsville; Hubert H. Smith of Hammonton, NJ; Walter Smith and Mrs. Leona Nivens of New Market. One daughter, Grace E. Smith died October 1, 1918. Besides the children there are surviving five grandchildren; five brothers, James, George, John and Walter Harris of near Ladoga and Elmer Harris of Indianapolis and two sisters, Mrs. Deck Thomas and Mrs. A.P. Shackelford of near Ladoga. Funeral services will be held from the home in New Market Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with burial in the Freedom Cemetery. - kbz
