Danville, Ill – Louis A. Smith, a veteran railroad and stationary engineer, a resident of Danville for 28 years, and one of the best known and most respected citizens of the city is dead. Mr. Smith passed away yesterday morning Nov 4, 1916 at his home, 710 Harmon Avenue. His death occurred at 9:55 o’clock, following a long illness from cancer of the stomach, and while his demise was not unexpected it came as a great shock to his wide circle of friends in Danville and elsewhere. Mr. Smith had been in ill health the past year but did not give up work until about a month ago. Mr. Smith was married in Danville in 1876 to Miss Sarah Davidson of Crawfordsville, Ind. The decedent was a railroad engineer for 30 years. - kbz
