LINDEN – Mrs. Goldie
M. Smith, 73, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday at her home here after an illness of
several weeks. She was born May 16, 1893 in Owen County, a daughter of John and
Elizabeth Dalton Asher. She was educated in the Quincy schools and married Hume
Smith on July 31, 1913. They lived in Quincy prior to moving here in 1917. Mrs.
Smith was a member of the Quincy Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband;
three sons, Melvin and Junior of Lafayette and Eugene M. of Linden; three
daughters, Mrs. (Genevieve) David Sutton of Linden, Mrs. (Martha) Orvile Weigle
of Rt. 7, Lafayette, and Mrs. (Doris) Earl Bulington of Lafayette; 21
grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale and Ray Asher of
Quincy; two sisters, Mrs. Ice Smith of Greencastle and Mrs. Pearl Shipley of
Lafayette, and nieces and nephews. Two brothers preceded her in death. Funeral
services are at 1:30 p.m. Monday at Helms Funeral Home here, where friends may
call after 1 p.m. Sunday. Rev. Dale M. Wilson will be the minister, and burial
will be in Coombs Cemetery at Quincy. – jlr
