Frederick Smith was born near Waveland Oct. 3, 1829, died at his home in this place Nov. 3, 1901. Mr. Smith was of a family of thirteen children, of whom one brother and three sisters are still living. He was married to Marsenia Sampson at Ladoga, Sept. 22, 1857, and to that union were born three children, Mollie, who passed away several years ago, and Charles and Sattie, who still survive him. Mr. Smith was probably one of the best known men in our community. In all his dealings he was honorable and upright, always ready to help those who were in need. A faithful Christian, having been a member of the Christian church for forty-seven years. He was also a prominent Mason, having joined that body thirty-three years ago, seventeen of which he served as secretary of the organization. The funeral was held Tuesday morning in the Christian church conducted by Rev Jack Ashby. The Masons marched in a body from the residence to the church, thence to the cemetery where the beautiful Masonic ceremony was delivered. - thanks to Kim H
