Fred Smith, one of the pioneer citizens of the county, died at his home in Waveland yesterday morning. The funeral will occur tomorrow morning at 11 o’clock and will be under the auspices of the Masonic Lodge of Waveland. -k

Smith was born near Waveland Oct. 3,
1829, died at his home in this place Nov. 3, 1901. Mr. Smith was of a family of
thirteen children, of whom one brother and three sisters are still living. He
was married to Marsenia Sampston at Ladoga, Sept. 22, 1857, and to that union
was born three children, Mollie, who passed away several years ago, and Charles
and Sattie, who still survive him.
Mr. Smith was probably one of the
best known men in our community. In all his dealings he was honorable and
upright, always ready to help those who were in need; A faithful Christian,
having been a member of the Christian Church for forty seven years. He was also
a prominent Mason, having joined that body thirty three years ago, seventeen of
which he served as secretary of the organization.
The funeral was held Tuesday morning
in the Christian Church conducted by Rev. Jack Ashby. The Masons marched in a
body from the residence to the church, thence to the cemetery where the
beautiful Masonic
