LINDEN – Mrs. Edna C.
Smith, 78, resident of Linden for the past 14 years, died at 6 p.m. Sunday at
St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette. She had been in failing health for several
years and hospitalized six days. Mrs. Smith resided in Indianapolis 40 years
before moving to Linden. She worked there for the Service Transfer Company.
Born Dec. 1, 1888, at Eckerty, Ind., Mrs. Smith was the daughter of Marion L.
and Maria Hulett Ott. She was married Dec. 15, 1907, to Balva E. Smith, who
died in 1911. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Linden-Kirkpatrick Methodist
Church. She was educated in the Crawford County schools. Surviving are two
sisters, Mrs. Lela Sturm of Linden and Mrs. K. D. Patton of English, Ind., and
several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one
sister. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Helms Funeral
Chapel in Linden with Rev. Dale Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the
Linden Cemetery. Friends may call after 4 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary. – jlr
