Clarence "Sig" Smith, 90, retired farmer and carpenter, died at 1 p.m. Saturday at his home. A resident of Ripley Township for 60 years, he retired 10 years ago and moved to Alamo. He was a member of the Alamo Christian Church. He was also a member and past maste of Alamo Masonic Lodge 144. Mr. Smith was awareded the organization's 50-year-pin in 1968. Born 4 March 1882, near the Shades State Park, he was a son of Joseph M. and Allie Lang Smith. He attended Montgomery County grade schools. He was first married in 1906 (15 Feb) to Jessie L. Livengood (daughter of Wilson and Emma Baird Livengood). She died 28 Sept 1915 of sugar diabetes and other complications. He was next married to Lela Livengood, her sister (Lela b. 20 Jan 1894) on 11 Nov 1916. She survives. Other survivors include three daughters, Mrs. William (Edith) Sabens of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Paul (Ruby) Beach of Linnsburg and Mrs. Robert (Ruth) Smith of Delphi: nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two daughters. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday in the Servies-Thomas Funeral Home at Waynetown with Rev. Larry Melvin officiating. Burial will be in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. Masonic rites will be conducted at 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Friends may call there.
