Charles SMITH, 74, Dies At His Home- Charles R. Smith, 74, CMR 8, died at 3:15 a.m. Saturday at his home east of the city after a long illness. Born March 23, 1890, in Lawrence County, Mr. Smith was the son of William Henry and Margaret Ellen Webster Smith. In 1944, he began farming in Montgomery County east of Linden. He had lived in Crawfordsville for four years prior to his death. Mr. Smith was a member of the Church of Christ in Pinhook, Ind., near Bedford. He was preceded in death by two wives, Mamie Thielking and Hattie Spear; two brothers, two sisters and two grandchildren. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Bertha Royer Smith; three sons, Edwin W. of Crawfordsville, Fred T. of McAllen, Texas and Walter C. of Greenfield, Ind.; three brothers, Floyd and Victor of Bedford and Noah of near Bedford; a sister, Mrs. Della Riggles of Oolitic, Ind.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The body has been taken to the Day-Carter Funeral Home in Bedford where calling will be from 10 a.m. Monday until the funeral services there at 2 p.m. Monday. Mr. Edwin Williams will officiate. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery near Bedford.
