Wm. E. L. Smith. Wm. E.L. SMITH was born August 16, 1823, in Piqua county, Ohio, married January 12, 1854, to Mrs. Martha TANSEL at Montgomery county, Indiana. Four children were born to this union, two sons and two daughters. They lived in Missouri for some years and afterwards moved to Kansas where he spent his last days. He united with the Presbyterian church about fifty years ago but had his membership with the Methodist church during the last twenty-eight years of his life. He served through the entire service of the Mexican war, and also belonged to the Home Guards of the Civil ar. He was a loving companion, kind father and good neighbor. He died November 26, 1904, at the age of eighty-one years, three months and two days. His aged companion, four children, and three step children, A. Tansel, Sparks, Ok., Mrs. Albertine MYERS of this city and Mrs. May Campbell, Grand Junction, Colo., and many friends are left to mourn his loss. His children are Mrs. Geo. COLEMAN, Beloit, Kan., W.H. SMITH of this city, Mrs. R.L. CHRISTIAN, Clyde, Kan., and Elmer E. SMITH, city. The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church by the writer at one o'clock, November 27, 1904. He was laid to rest in the Washington Cemetery. Albert L. Young. - kbz
