MILLIGAN – Mrs.
Sylvia F. Smiley, 91, of Rt. 2, Rockville, died Wednesday in Ben Hur Nursing
Home at Crawfordsville where she had been a patient for about a year. She was a
member of Parkeville Christian Church and Greene Township Woman’s Club. Born
Aug. 3, 1885, in Parke County, she was a daughter of Jacob and Nancy Alexander
McClain. She married Clay Smiley on March 28, 1906, near Milligan. Surviving
are four daughters, Mrs. Marcenia McCutchan of Rt. 2, Rockville, Mrs. Eloyse
Phipps of Rockville and Mrs. Evelyn Northcutt and Mrs. Martin Jean Neier, both
of Crawfordsville; a son, Melvin of Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Gozette
Phillips of Rt. 2, Rockville; a brother, Raymond McClain of Rt. 2, Rockville;
18 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Her husband, two grandchildren and two sisters are deceased. Services will be
at 1 p.m. Saturday in Machledt & Servies Funeral Home at Waveland with the
Rev. Carl Huxford officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home after 4
p.m. Friday. Burial will be in Portland Mills Cemetery. – jlr
