Mellott - Elton Slusser, 76, who served with the US Army in France during WWI and was a resident of this area for the past 35 years, died Thursday evening in Turtle Creek Center, Lafayette. He had been in failing health for the past year. He was active in the Hopewell Baptist Church at Newtown and taught adult Sunday School Class for many years. He was a member of Campbell Chapel Church. Born Sept 16, 1894 near Mellott he was the only son of Mack and Alice Miller Slusser. He was married to Catherine Sutton. They spent the early part of their married life at Indianapolis and returned to the Richland Township area in 1936. Survivors include two cousins, Homer Will, Willamsport and Mrs. Oveta Smith, Mellott. He was preceded in death by his wife in 1962. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Hopewell Baptist Church, Newtown with Rev. George Phelps officiating. Friends may call at the Crumley-Williams Funeral Home, Hillsboro after 5 p.m. today.
