Wingate – Robert “Dale” Sloan, 73, Wingate passed away unexpectedly at 7:02 p.m. Saturday Jan 5, 2013 in the emergency room of Franciscan St. Elizabeth Health, Crawfordsville.  He had been ill since August 2012.  Dale was born Nov 14, 1939 in Crawfordsville. He was the son of the late Kenneth Brant and Lois B. (Cain) Sloan.  He was raised in Richland Township near Mellott and graduated from Richland Township School in 1957.  He later moved to Attica in the 1970s. For the past 10 years he has resided in Wingate.  Dale farmed for many years in Richland Township. After moving to Attica he worked at Harrison Steel Castings Company and later for the Attica Police Department and Fountain County Sheriff Department, retiring in 1980.  Dale had served in the Indiana National Guard. He had attended the Victory Fellowship Church in Hillsboro. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police and enjoyed the outdoors where he liked to hunt mushrooms, coon hunt and fish. He enjoyed raising his coon dogs. On June 7, 1959, Dale married Susan J. Lilly in Attica.  She survives. Dale leaves behind his wife of 53 years and three daughters, Candy (James) Decker, Kentucky; Sandy (Troy) Rice, Mellott and Melissa Dickson, Crawfordsville; brother Roy (Judy) Sloan, Lafayette; eight grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by daughter Lisa Jill Sloan; sisters, Vivian Strawser and an infant sister. Friends may call at Maus Funeral Home, Hillsboro on Wednesday Jan 9, 2013 from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. with Pastor Harold Holt officiating. Burial will follow in the Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Paws and Claws.”
