Thomas P. Slattery, 27 years old died at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. William F. Slattery, 113 E. College Street at 3:30 this morning after an illness of about 4 months with lung trouble. Until the past winter he had seemed in robust health and his death comes as a shock to his relatives and friends in the city. During the last week his condition had become more critical each day and hope for his recovery had been give up by his physicians but not by himself. Until the last he decided he would recover and would soon be able to return to work. "Tommie," as the young man was known to his host of friends here was possessed of a cheerful disposition and a ready wit that had won him the friendship of all who met him. Always ready to perform an act of kindness for another and with a cheerful word ever upon his lips, he will be missed in the community. The deceased was born in Crawfordsville and all of his life had been spent here. He had worked with his father in the contracting business and during the last few years had been agent for the Ben Hur traction company here. When his illness forced him to retire from his duties a few months ago his many friends among the employees of the traction company were loath to see him leave. Today the employees' room at the traction station, a place usually resounding with laughter and jests of the men was quiet and a spirit of sorrow was prevalent. Five years ago, Mr. Slattery was married to Miss Hazel Mason who survives with two children, Katherine 3 years old and William, aged 3 months. Two brothers William and John and two sisters, Miss Elizabeth Slattery of this city and Mrs. George Shuck of Columbus, Ind survive. Funeral services will probably be held from St. Bernard's Church Wednesday morning at nine, with burial in Calvary Cemetery. - kbz
