Charles J. SMITH a prominent farmer residing six
miles NW of Crawfordsville passed away at his home early today following
an illness of only a few hours. Death came at 6:30 o'clock and is
believed to have been caused by heart trouble. Mr. Smith was well known
throughout Montgomery County and was 59 years of age. The deceased was
the son of John and Mary Smith and was born and raised in Washington
County, Indiana. He came here several years ago and has since been
engaged in agriculture. Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Florence Smith, 3 children: Mrs. White of this city; and Gilbert and
Ernest Smith at home. One daughter by a former marriages resides in
Illinois. The mother, Mrs. Mary Smith of Washington County Indiana, two
sisters, Mrs. Mike Byres and Mrs. Lois Treaco of Sellersburg and one
brother, William Smith of Washington County also survive. The funeral
services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 from Roberts Chapel
Church. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
