John O. Smith, 83, Dana, died 3:25 p.m. Wednesday in St. Vincent Hospice, Indianapolis. Mr. Smith retired from Superior Coach Sales, Perrysville after 35 years of service. He was a member of Dana First Baptist Church, and a Metcalf (Ill.) High School graduate. He served in the Army as staff sergeant with the military police in France and England during World War II. He was born Aug. 23, 1921, at Metcalf, Ill., to Walter and Millie Ketchum Smith. He married Bernell Craig Oct. 18, 1947. She survives. Also surviving are two sons, Rick (Jean), Clinton, and Brian (Shelly), Dana; one daughter, Candy (Chris) Brown, Staunton, Ind.; one brother, Max, Dana; two sisters, Lema Wetherly, Clinton, and Martha Highland, Crawfordsville; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services are scheduled 11:30 a.m. Saturday in Overpeck-Gooch Funeral Home, 225 Maple St., Dana, with the Rev. Rob Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Bono Cemetery, Dana. Friends may call 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Dana First Baptist Church.
