John H. SMITH, aged 86 and one of the old and respected residents of
Ripley Twp, died at the home in Yountsville shortly before 8 o'clock
last evening of old age, super induced by a form of creeping paralysis
of which he had been threatened for some months. The deceased was one
of a family of 10 the descendants of Robert Smith, who came with his
family from Ohio and settled on what is known as the Smith farm, south
of Yountsville. One by one this pioneer family have been called until
now, Mrs. Margaret Davis, widow of Warren Davis, Jr. is the only
surviving. John H. lived on the old homestead until about 3 years ago
when he moved to Yountsville. He was a quiet man of orderly ways and was
known for his rugged honesty and neighborly ways. He was married early
in life to Nancy Loan and to them were born one daughter, Addie who died
in infancy and one son, Oscar H who with the widow survives. The
funeral service will be held at the church in Yountsville, Wed afternoon
