John Smith, Veteran of the Civil war, died at 8:20, a.m. Sunday at his home near Advance, aged 65 years, 2 months and 11 days. Pneumonia was the cause of death. He had been ill for three weeks.
Mr. Smith was a native to Boone County and was born Nov. 24, 1845. he was married March 3 1869 in Montgomery County, to Cynthiana Whitecotton. Three children surviving are, - Roselle Smith, James H. Smith, Laura Otis Smith, Zenith O. Smith, Ernest Smith, Dovie Magnolia Smith. He also leaves one brother, Gideon Smith, and one sister Rebecca Ann Tolley.
Mr. Smith served in Co. D,. 68th Indiana Volunteer infantry during the Civil War.
He was a member of the First Christian Church at Advance. The funeral was held at the church at 11 a.m. Tuesday, the Rev. W.P. Kibbey officiating. Interment as at the Old Union Cemetery.
