Funeral services for Alva SMITH were held Thursday afternoon at Machledt Funeral Home with Rev. John R. Servies in charge. Prayer was offered by Rev. Grover c. DeNeal. Music was furnished by Mrs. Virnia Sharpe who sang, Whispering HOpe and When the Roll is Called Up Yonder. Pall bearers were Carl Jones, Mel Wise, Lon Wendell and Roy Hockett. Burial in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery.

Alva Lee SMITH, 49, a life long resident of this community died Tuesday at his home here. He had been seriously ill for the past six weeks. Mr. Smith was born near Deers Mill Sept 9, 1903 the son of Charles and Edna Smith. On January 14, 1922, he married Lenna Bannon of Waveland, who survives his going. He was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church. Surviving in addition to the widow, are three sons: Charles Lee Smith of Thorntown; Russell W. Smith of Crawfordsville and Jack B. Smith of Waveland; one daughter, Eileen at home; one brother, Virgil Smith of Wallace; one step brother, Raymond Busenbark of Waveland; a step mother, Mrs. Flora Smith of Waveland and 8 grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2:30 at the Machledt Funeral Home. The Rev. John R. Servies will preach the funeral sermon. Friends may call at the residence after 1 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday. Burial in Wallace Lutheran Cemetery. - both transcribed and submitted by Karen Bazzani Zach
