Mrs. Joe Smith suffered a paralytic stroke at her home here (Bluff Mills) last Thursday morning, never gaining consciousness and death came Sunday night at 11 o'clock. The funeral services were held from Freedom Church on Tuesday at two. Burial in Cemetery nearby.

We have met to pay our last respects to Alamarinda Lang Smith, daughter of Benjamine and Mary Elizabeth Lang, who was born in Parke County, Indiana, near Rockville, August 19, 1854. Here she grew to womanhood and at the age of 24 years was united in marriage to Joseph M. Smith, October 19, 1879. Five sons and two daughters were given to this union all surviving the mother. Mr. and Mrs. Smith have spent their entire married life in parke and Montgomery counties. Mrs. Smith was in her usual health until Thursday morning, Jan. 28 she suffered a paralytic stroke from which she never regained consciousness and on Sunday night near the midnight hour, Jan. 31, she peacefully passed to her eternal home at the age of 71 years, 5 months and 12 days. Thus closed the Book of Life, a life of useful toil anxious solications, and tender care for those she loved. The true character of this noble wife and mother was proven in her care for her husband who has been an invalid for three years and her son Guy, who has been blessed with her parental care for 31 years. Such motherly love and patience and Christian fortitutde will be rewarded in that sunny land where suffering is unknown. She was truly a devoted wife and mother, a good neighbor, hospitable in her home, steadfast in her friendships and in all the higher relations of life a true woman. We dare not question why death should come and wrest from us those who are so greatly needed and leave us with broken hearts, for the ways of Providence are inscrutable. We can only bow our heads in Christian resignation and await the inevitable hour. Mrs. Smith is survived by the husband, five sons: Bert of Boise, Idaho; Clarence of Yountsville; Claude of Waveland; Carl of Byron and GUy at home; two daughters, Mrs. Pearl Woods of near Crawfordsville and Mrs. Ora Myers of near Wallace. Two brothers, Frank Lang of Danville, Ill and Eugene Lang of Indianapolis. Fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Typed by her great granddaughter, Karen Bazzani Zach.  Allie was a gentle, sweet woman.  Hope I'm a bit like her, at least :)
