Rockville, Ind April 10, 1935 – John E. Smiley, 55 years old, died suddenly about 9 o’clock Tuesday night at the home of his sister, Mrs. Margaret Heslar. Death was due to heart disease. Mr. Smiley is survived by one son, Herman Smiley of Cincinnati, Ohio; three brothers, Henry Smiley of Crawfordsville, Thomas Smiley of Liberty, Mo and William Smiley of Rockville and the sister. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 o’clock Friday morning at the Cecedar Church at Portland Mills with the Rev. Clyde Lineger of Rockville officiating. Burial will be in the Cecedar Cemetery.

Rockville, April 11 – John E. Smiley, age 55, Rockville, nationally-known chicken farmer and breeder died of heart disease while visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs. Margaret Heslar. Mr. Smiley has received numerous chicken prizes at the Indiana State Fair and at other fairs in this part of the country. Surviving are a son, Herman Smiley, Cincinnati; three brothers, Thomas Smiley, Liberty; William Smiley, Rockville and Henry Smiley, New Market and the sister.
