Slavens - Jesse

Jesse Slavens, 77-year-old native of North Salem, died Sunday at 8:40 a.m. (CDT) at the home of his son, Clyde, at 719 S. Walnut St. He had been ill for a year, serious for six weeks.
Born Oct. 9, 1875, Mr. Slavens was the son of William and Adaline Gowin Slavens. On Dec. 19, 1900, he was married to Elsie Irwin in Danville.
He was a member of the First Christian Church and the Eagles Lodge. For many years he was employed at the Mid-States Steel and Wire Company but since 1941 had been caretaker for I. C. Elston Jr.
Survivors include the widow; three sons, Clyde, at whose home he died; Glen, also of Crawfordsville, and Faye, GreencastIe; two brothers, Oder of Plainfield and Nitus of Dexter, Ia., and five grandchildren.
Mr. Slavens was preceded in death by three daughters, Mrs Lola Rankin and Edith and Dorothy Slavens.
Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. CDT at the Proffitt and Sons Funeral Home.
