George SLAVENS, 72, a veteran of the Spanish-American War and   of WWI, who saw action in the St. Mehell offensive during WWI   died Friday morning Feb 16th at the Veteran's Hospital at Marion   from the effects of a cerebral hemmorage. He had been ill of a   heart ailment. Mr. Slavens began his military service at the turn   of the century when the field artillery where he served for 16   years. For 12 years he served with the coast artillery at Ft.   Monroe VA. He was overseas for 17 months during WWI. At the end   of his army service he was a rural mail carrier out of the   Waveland Post Office for 14 years. He was a member of the   Waveland Christian Church, Morton Masonic Lodge, Raymond Todd   Post, American Legion, United Spanish War Veterans post of   Greencastle and Order of Eastern Star, Waveland. Born Dec 15,   near Greencastle, in 1879, the son of Mr. and Mrs. WT Slavens, he   married Stella May McCLAIN at Phoebus, Va Dec 22, 1915. There   survive the widow; a daughter, Mrs. Gilbert Thomas of   Indianapolis; a sister, Mrs. Thomas Tuttle, Greencastle, a   grandson, Harold Thomas of Indianapolis; and 3 great   grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Waveland   Methodist Church Sunday afternoon in charge of the pastor, Rev.   EF Prevo, and burial was in Mt. Moriah Cemetery where the Raymond   Todd Post American Legion conducted graveside rites. -- kbz

Crawfordsville Feb 16 – Funeral services will be tomorrow at ladoga and Waveland for two Montgomery County mailmen who died yesterday. Rites will be tomorrow for Otha Herman Scott, 56, Ladoga, postmaster since 1944.  He died yesterday at Robert Long Hospital in Indianapolis. A Boone County native, Mr. Scott was a veteran of WWI, member of the American Legion, Masonic Lodge and Ladoga Christian Church. He was a past worthy patron of the Order of Eastern Star at ladoga.

 
George Slavens, 74, rural mail carrier at Waveland since 1938 will be buried at Waveland tomorrow. A Spanish-American War and WWI veteran, Mr. Slavens was a member of the United Spanish War Veterans, American Legion, Morton Masonic Lodge, Order of Eastern Star and Waveland Methodist Church.

Services for George Slavens, Spanish-American War and WWI veteran will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow in the Methodist Church at Waveland.  Mr. Slavens, who was 76, died yesterday in a veterans’ hospital after an illness of seven years.  He was a member of Methodist Church in Waveland, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and American Legion.  Surviving are his wife, Stella of Waveland; a daughter, Mrs. Thelma Thomas; a grandson, Harold Thomas and three great grandchildren, all of Indianapolis.
