The news of
the sudden death of Dr. Clare SKILLMAN came as a great shock to this
community. The sudden death of his wife but a few weeks ago adds a
further sadness to the calamity to the family. Thos intimately
acquainted with Mr. Skillman aver that he has not been properly at
himself for sometime and it is known that he left here Fri to go to
Indianapolis to have an operation performed but those who saw him on the
train are of the opinion that there was nothing the matter with him so
far as bodily ailment were concerned but that he might have been
laboring under the mental strain that became manifest in his last hours.
Dr. Skillman was a graduate physician and was the proprietor of a drug
store in this place. He was a son of William Skillman one of the
prominent pioneers of the Raccoon vicinity. He is survived by one
brother, James Skillman of Raccoon, Lyda Skillman a sister well known in
educational circles ! in Putnam and adjoining counties preceded him in
death. The body of Dr. Skillman will be brought to Roachdale tonight and
the funeral services will be held Tuesday morning. The service will be i
n charge of the local Masonic lodge and the burial will be in old
Lebanon Cemetery east of this place.
