WINGATE -- Mrs. Belle Singleton, 77, Rt. 1, Wingate, died at the Ben Hur Nursing Home in Crawfordsville at 2 a.m. Tuesday. She had suffered a stroke June 9 and had lived at the nursing home after being released from Culver Hospital in early July. She was a member of the United Church of Christ, Wingate. She had lived a mile southeast of Wingate since 1914. Mrs. Singleton was born Feb. 27, 1889, in Kentucky, to John and Paradine Dye Spears. She married John Singleton in Eubank, Ky., Aug. 15, 1909. They first moved to New Richmond in 1913. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in May, and two brothers and a sister. Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Drew Wesley of Eubank, Ky., and Mrs. Ruel Estes of Science Hill, Ky.; a brother, Taylor Spears of Eubank, Ky.; two daughters, Mrs. Gladys Hays and Mrs. Pauline Bacon, both of Rt. 1, Wingate; a grandson, John Bacon, and a great-granddaughter, Tressa Bacon. Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Servies Funeral Home in Waynetown with Rev. Scott Comrie of Wingate United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will be in New Richmond Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Wednesday
