Under the auspices of McPherson Post the remains of John Simpson, late a soldier in the 51st Indiana regiment, were laid away yesterday in Masonic Cemetery. At the grave Rev. J. W. Greene delivered a short but very appropriate address followed by the Grand Army ceremonies. The ranks are rapidly being depleted and the roll call of honor grows larger each successive year. Forty thousand crossed the river last year. More than that number will cross this year. They await the coming of others, and the men who fought our battles that this nation and the union of these states might live forever, will exist only in history and in the memory of a grateful country.

Johnny Simpson was found dead in his bed at the home of Mrs. Marley on Spring Street last Saturday morning. The deceased has been subject to fits for several years which leads to the supposition that while in one of those spells he turned over on his face and smothered to death. He served in the late war in Co I, 51st Indiana Regiment from 1862 to 1865. He was buried in the Masonic Cemetery Sunday. - kbz
