Source: Crawfordsville Journal Review 22 Feb 1937
Estel May Simmons, daughter of John Andrew and Minnie Elvira McAlister, was born at Mellott, Ind, July 11, 1892 and died Feb 18, 1937, at the age of 44 Years 7 Months 7 Days. She spent her childhood day sin and around Mellott, Ind. She received her education in the Mellott school and united with the North Christian Church of Mellott at age 16. She was united in marriage to Floyd Simmons of Hillsboro on Jan 8, 1915 and later moved to Crawfordsville at which time she changed her membership to the First Christian Church she devoted the greater part of her religions life. To this union were born 5 children, Mary Kathleen, George Andrew, Emory GUy, Minnie Louise and Florence Eileen. She was a true and loving mother and a devoted wife. Her ever thought was for the welfare of her home and family. She was highly respected and loved by all who knew her. To mourn her death she leaves her husband and children, her mother, one brother and an enormous host of relatives and friends. Though she's gone, she's not forgotten; Though her spirit fled, she's here. Though she died without a farewell, she will always be quite near. Though she left, she will never leave me, For her home' s now in the sky, And she'll guide my faltering footsteps from the golden throne on high. God, the maker and creator, by his will and might grace Has released her from the burnden And in Heaven has filled a place, though the world is filled with people, And lost love might find another, Yet there's nothing that can take within my heart the place of mother - Emory Simmons Card of Thanks - we wish to thank our neighbors and friends for their kindness and sympathy during the illness and death of Estel May SImmons. Also Rev. Wilson and Rev. Antrobus; those who sent the beautiful flowers and all those who assisted us in any way - Mrs. Minnie McAlister - Floyd Simmons & Family. --kbz
