Iva B. Shumate, 90, who used to live in Romney and Clarks Hill died at 9:15 a.m. Saturday in Kingsbury Centre in Lebanon. She had lived there since January 1985.  She was born Oct 1, 1899 near New Market, Tenn and moved in 1915 from Tennessee to Montgomery County. She married Edgar Shumate in 1919 in Crawfordsville. During the early part of their marriage they lived in Romney.

They lived in Clarks Hill before moving in 1948 to a farm near Whitestown in Boone County. Her husband died on Jan 19, 1964. She moved to Lebanon in 1964.  Mrs. Shumate was a homemaker, and was known for her sense of humor, her baking and entertaining family and friends. She was a member of Walnut Street Baptist Church in Lebanon. Surviving are two sons, Clay F. Shumate of Lafayette and Ralph C. Shumate of Lebanon; a granddaughter, Barb Hendry of Arcadia, who grew up in the home; a brother, Wayne Foster of Crawfordsville; and three sisters, Ruby Ballinger of Luck, Wis., Mrs. Earl (Lola) Kinkead of New Market, Tenn and Mrs. Mac (Naomi) French of Dandridge, Tenn. - kbz

“Funeral Notices” – Visitation 4-8 p.m. Monday Myers Mortuary, Lebanon. Service there 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. Five grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, 2 stepgreat grandchildren survive. A grandson preceded in death. – kbz
