A special from Sullivan, Ind., says: “A telegram was received here today announcing the sudden death of John L. Shields, who formerly resided in this city, at his home in Hardy, Ark. Mr. Shields was a graduate of Wabash College, a prominent Prohibitionist and the Prohibition candidate for governor of Indiana in 1896.” Mr. Shields graduated here in 1877, and was well known to many of Crawfordsville’s citizens.
