Lester Franklin Shewey, 70, of Shewey's Flowers, located east of Crawfordsville on U.S. 136, died at 6:40 a.m. Saturday at Culver Hospital. He had been ill since last Sept. 22. Born Aug. 9, 1898 near Mace, Mr. Shewey was the son of Harry D. and Estella Kennedy Shewey. He married Hazel C. Huffman July 8, 1916 at Indianapolis. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1966. Mr. Shewey was educated in the Walnut Township schools and was graduated from Mace High School with the class of 1916. Mr. Shewey was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Crawfordsville. He was a past president of the local Lions Club and also belonged too all the Masonic bodies of Crawfordsville; Athens Chapter No. 97, Order of Eastern Star; Scottish Rite of Indianapolis; Simonides Court No. 1, Ben Hur Life Association, and the Knights of Pythias at Mace. Surviving, in addition to the widow, are a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Maxwell of Indianapolis; a grandson, David Maxwell, a student at Vincennes University; a sister, Mrs. Waneta Minnich of Crawfordsville, and a brother, William K. Shewey, also of Crawfordsville. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Hunt and Son Funeral Home with Rev. Frank Little officiating. Friends may call at the mortuary after noon on Sunday. Burial to be at Masonic Cemetery.
