Shelton - Leland Guy

ELMDALE – Leland Guy Shelton, 71, a retired employee of Mid-States and Wire Co., died at 6:10 p.m. Monday in Culver Hospital. He was admitted to the hospital Friday and had been in ill health for the past year. Mr. Shelton had lived all of his adult life in Elmdale. He was a member of Moose Lodge in Crawfordsville and attended Elmdale United Methodist Church. He had attended grade school in Elmdale. He retired in 1965 from Mid-States after working there for 22 years. He was born April 2, 1900, in Montgomery County near Smartsburg to William M. and Nanny L. Gobel Shelton. On May 12, 1928 he married Alberta Faye Harshbarger of the Liberty Chapel community. Surviving are his widow; five daughters, Mrs. Audrey Davis, Mrs. Beverly Bruton and Mrs. Patricia A. Stewart, all of Crawfordsville, Mrs. Ocie L. Harrison of Whitestown and Mrs. Ruby Harrison of Zionsville; one son, Walter L. “Sonny” Shelton of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Clyde of Crawfordsville and Howard of Elmdale; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Cline of Crawfordsville and Mrs. Mary Bonebrake of Waynetown, and 17 grandchildren. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in Servies-Thomas Funeral Home, Waynetown. Rev. Jean McCan will officiate. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery north of Elmdale. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday. – jlr
