"West House News" -- Cora, the daughter of James and Sarah Shelton died Tuesday of consumption. She had been a sufferer for a long time, although she bore her suffering very patiently. Services were conducted at the house, north of Smartsburg Wednesday; interment at Smartsburg.

Source: Crawfordsville Argus 9 December 1899 "Walnut Hill" -- Cora, the daughter of James and Sarah Shelton, living north of Smartsburg, died Thursday morning at 11 o'clock. The funeral services took place Wednesday. Interment at Smartsburg Cemetery. Cora R. Shelton the 16-year-old daughter of James R. and Sarah H. Shelton died December 5th at her home near this place of consumption after a long and painful illness she bore her sufferings patiently. She leaves a father, mother and two sisters besides a host of friends to mourn her loss. Her funeral was preached by F.S. Quigg of the Friends Church, by her request, interment at Smartsburg cemetery. Her parents desire to thank the neighbors for their kindness during this great affliction. Darling Cora thou hast left us, Here thy loss we deepy feel, But 'tis God that hath bereft us, He can all our sorrows heal.
