Okla “Oke” Shelley, 78, of Rt. 1, New Ross, died at 3:30 p.m. Friday at his home of a heart attack. He had been a farmer in the New Ross area for more than 50 years. He was a member of the New Ross Christian Church and Hazelrig Masonic Lodge. He was graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1918. Born Aug. 17, 1898, at Advance, he was a son of William Thomas and Mary Forrest Erskine Shelley. He was married to Anna Pearl Linn on March 2, 1919, at Crawfordsville. She died in June of 1968. Surviving are a son, Austin L. of West Lafayette; a daughter, Carolyn Hipes of Crawfordsville; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Beatrice Krodel of Indianapolis and Jessie Mae Boze of Crawfordsville; and two grandchildren. Graveside rites will be conducted Tuesday after cremation. There will be no calling at Hunt & Son Funeral Home. – jlr
